Meet Mio, WADSIH’s new Administration Lead
We’re pleased to welcome Mio Angela Gadon to the WADSIH team as our new Administration Lead. Mio is a Perth-based multidisciplinary artist, designer and arts worker originally from the Philippines.
It’s been a long and exciting road filled with milestones, but the weekend of September 20-21 saw the culmination of all the work, effort and inspiration as the WA Health Hackathon 2025 was held at Curtin University’s Centre for Aboriginal Studies.
During a series of online workshops and team building days that saw the Hackathon Challenges take shape, programmers and coders brainstormed and collaborated within their teams as well as with the Hackathon’s mentors to bring the problems facing the health sector in 2025 into focus and build the solutions.
The Hackathon day and Pitch Finale event over the weekend bought more than 70 participants in 10 teams together to finesse, finalise and present their ideas to the panel of judges.
Sponsors HBF, East Metropolitan Health Service and the WA Department of Health, who worked with us to identify and establish the Challenges, were overjoyed with the enthusiasm and results, and are now set to reap the benefits as teams continue to iterate and build out the tools and techniques that will address them.
But before we move into the future to make them a reality, it was time to celebrate the winners. Congratulations to;
🏆 Grand Prize – Urban Threshold: Comprehensive patient triage, bed management, and simulation tool responding to the Department of Health challenge.
🔧 Technical Achievement – Ground Truth: Fall-detection app that triggers alerts and responses — a unique take on EMHS’s challenge.
🎖️Honourable Mention – Medicoders: Dashboard and patient interaction tool for the Department of Health.
🎖️Honourable Mention – Hack to Health: Solution addressing HBF’s challenge on temperature stress and cardiovascular disease prevention.

Our AI Program Coordinator, Beth Cusack has been recognised for her work delivering inclusive Gen-AI Bootcamps that help autistic young people build practical technology skills, confidence and a sense of belonging. The program recently expanded to Geraldton, where students explored generative AI, robotics, coding and virtual reality through hands-on projects.
