Meet Mio, WADSIH’s new Administration Lead
We’re pleased to welcome Mio Angela Gadon to the WADSIH team as our new Administration Lead. Mio is a Perth-based multidisciplinary artist, designer and arts worker originally from the Philippines.
The WA Data Science Innovation Hub recently supported ‘Hacking Back Against Scams’, a Hackathon hosted by Murdoch University in partnership with Perron Institute that bought together the sharpest minds of law and IT to co-design AI-powered solutions aimed at tackling scams.
Across two high-energy days (August 22–23), participants formed interdisciplinary teams to identify scam patterns, prototype real-world AI tools and pitch their ideas to a panel of industry mentors and legal innovators.
And what a success it was. WADSIH Innovation Lead Tim Sondalini facilitated, and we’d like to thank all the participants who brought such energy and creativity to the event.
The solutions and proposals that came out of the event represent an exciting future for applying AI to scam and fraud detection, and we can’t wait to see what comes next as we build on the momentum and solidify the partnerships we all made at the event.

Our AI Program Coordinator, Beth Cusack has been recognised for her work delivering inclusive Gen-AI Bootcamps that help autistic young people build practical technology skills, confidence and a sense of belonging. The program recently expanded to Geraldton, where students explored generative AI, robotics, coding and virtual reality through hands-on projects.
