It Takes a Spark! 2026

WADSIH AI Program Coordinator Beth Cusack will facilitate a teacher mini-masterclass at the 2026 It Takes a Spark! Alcoa Kwinana STEM Conference in Mandurah.

The conference brings teachers and students together for a day of collaborative, hands-on STEM learning. Designed for students in Years 4–10, teachers and education leaders, the program focuses on developing future-ready skills including communication, creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and community.

In her session, AI Lift-Off: Teaching AI Skills in the Classroom, Beth will introduce educators to WADSIH’s AI Lift-Off program and explore approaches to teaching AI skills in the classroom.

WADSIH’s AI Lift-Off program will also feature in two hands-on student workshops: Make a Model and Code an AI. These activities will give students practical experience with the concepts behind AI systems and demonstrate how AI education can be made engaging and accessible.

The broader conference program includes keynote presentations, teacher professional development, DigiDesign workshops, real-world problem-solving challenges and interactive activities at the Alcoa Kwinana STEAM Expo.

The event is suitable for Year 4–10 students, teachers, education assistants, curriculum leaders, principals and others interested in embedding meaningful STEM learning in schools. Participating teachers can receive six hours of professional learning.
