The SKA will produce hundreds of petabytes of data that need to be stored, processed, and analysed to produce cutting edge science. The global alliance of SKA Regional Centres (SRC) will enable the astronomy community to readily access SKA data to facilitate scientific achievement.
The AusSRC Design Study Program is a $4m program, funded by the Australian Government and CSIRO. The program is lead by ICRAR and CSIRO in collaboration with Pawesy, MWA, Shanghai Astronomical Observatory (ERIDANUS Project), and SRC Steering Committee to gather the requirements to design an SKA Regional Centre in Australian and Asia-Pacific Region.
The program will initially run from mid-2019 to mid-2022 with a focus on assisting SKA precursors ASKAP and MWA science teams with computing and data challenges, and will ramp up into SKA through engagement in commissioning and early science operations of SKA-LOW in 2022-2027.
