Meet Mio, WADSIH’s new Administration Lead
We’re pleased to welcome Mio Angela Gadon to the WADSIH team as our new Administration Lead. Mio is a Perth-based multidisciplinary artist, designer and arts worker originally from the Philippines.
This week, we wrapped up our Gen AI Bootcamp at the Lyn Beazley Academy !
We had some really thoughtful Hackathon projects from these students, with our 🏆Social Impact🏆 award going to an accessibility a tool that allows you to control your laptop with hand gestures instead of the touch pad. We also had our 🏆Ethical Excellence🏆 award which went to a project designed to identify AI-generated social media content & reduce disinformation.
It is great to see these young people engaging thoughtfully with Generative AI and exploring ways it can assist their community.💭
We were also happy to have Alex Jenkins back again, showing us some AI innovation projects he’s developing. Students got to try out Alex’s AI tutor & put it to the test – exploring AI safety, responsibility, and transparency. We were impressed at the creativity of the students’ testing – prompting in morse code, mixing Japanese and French in a single prompt, and trying to overload the model with the entire bee movie script! 🤪

Our AI Program Coordinator, Beth Cusack has been recognised for her work delivering inclusive Gen-AI Bootcamps that help autistic young people build practical technology skills, confidence and a sense of belonging. The program recently expanded to Geraldton, where students explored generative AI, robotics, coding and virtual reality through hands-on projects.
