The future looks bright for WADSIH in 2023

Karyn Clements

Our mission at the WA Data Science Innovation Hub is to foster collaboration, promote data science expertise, advocate for the industry, and encourage data literacy across the community, industry, academia and government.

Through this work, we aim to create more data science jobs in Western Australia, building a world-class data driven ecosystem to advance our economy, benefit our society and ultimately ensure our State remains at the forefront of the digital revolution.

Every year, we host inspiring, educational and comprehensive data science events to further widen our reach and expand the knowledge and learnings of data science.

Our calendar for 2023 is set to be bigger and better than ever, with a number of key events to assist those working in, or wanting to break into, the data science, AI and IT fields.

Data Science for Business Conference and Exhibition

The highlight of the WADSIH 2023 calendar is the Data Science for Business Conference and Exhibition, which is set to make a comeback on 2-3 August 2023, following the successful launch of the event this year.

The two day conference will feature practical case studies from key WA business leaders, hands-on skill development workshops, and interactive panel discussions with industry leaders.

With more than 30 local data science providers showcasing their products and services, and various networking opportunities such as sundowners, this is an event not to be missed if you want to connect with and learn from contemporaries in the data science space.

Data Science Discovery series

WADSIH’s Data Science Discovery series will be back with a bang in 2023, hot on the tails of its successful 2022 events.

This year, the series featured speakers from the consumer data, agriculture, manufacturing, and mining industries, who explored data science applications, technologies, and processes.

It’s clear that when businesses have a thorough understanding of the data they collect, the ways in which they can use it, and the innovative tools available, their operations can flourish and profits increase.

WADSIH Upskilling events

WADSIH will be hosting a number of Upskilling workshops throughout 2023, thanks to the positive feedback on the events this year.

The workshops cater for all different career stages, from students through to experienced data scientists.

In 2022, we hosted Upskilling events for AI engineers, business intelligence consultants, data analysts, and those looking to improve their machine learning skills.

We also took the Upskilling workshops to the regions, showcasing our events in both Kalgoorlie and Geraldton. In 2023, this is something we’ll be looking at expanding on, as we recognise the need for these skills in regional WA.

Expanding WADSIH’s STEM outreach

WADSIH is committed to spreading the word on the benefits of STEM, connecting with the future data scientists, engineers, IT professionals, and AI experts of WA. In 2023 WADSIH is planning to expand its outreach and meet more students inspired and excited about working in the STEM fields.

If you are a student, teacher, professor or educator interested in collaborating with us on this outreach, we’d love to connect and discuss potential collaboration opportunities.
